Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing! I truly believe that if I have a tenth of the influence on them that they have on me, then I will be a success. The student body is 99% a Hispanic population, all on free or reduced priced lunch. Many receive free uniforms and supplies because their families do not have the money for food and clothing. What they lack in monetary finances, they make up for in spirit and drive. The culture that surrounds my students is one of great history and woven with stories of traveled time and togetherness.
As we venture into becoming a STEAM Academy, my scholars need all the proper manipulatives to create as scientists, technologists, engineers, artists, and mathematicians.
While we do have some beginning level technologies and art supplies, my scholars need more project based learning experiences on the engineering level.
My Project
Our mission at Reagan STEAM Academy is to lead all scholars into the 21st century with hands on project based learning opportunities. The LEGO creation sets would incorporate these hand building technological skills and more.
The hands-on opportunities my scholars would receive from these LEGO sets would teach them engaging engineering skills that can be used both in and out of the classroom.
With these sets, my scholars will learn not only engineering techniques, but also the character traits of patience and team building, both attributes that are needed far outside the classroom setting.
My scholars are hard working individuals but have not had the opportunities to create on an engineering level due to budgetary constraints. These sets would give my students the ability to see the world from a different mindset and become present learners and our future leaders.
