We Need to Put on Our Listening Ears!

My Students

Our class consists of two dozen uniquely energetic, creative, motivated seven- and eight-year-old students, heading full STEAM ahead into Second Grade. Ours is a neighborhood school, serving the families of our city since 1953. Our class and school has an amazing group of children from a fabulously diverse range of backgrounds and experiences. Unfortunately, high poverty is part of the experience for most of these young learners.

These wonderfully wiggly young learners deserve every advantage as we work together to improve achievement in reading, math, and science by focusing on the whole child - building confidence while fostering their creativity and curiosity.

Lifelong learners are created by lighting the spark of imagination that drives a passion to learn.

I teach my students through rich, integrated units that make connections between literature, science, math, social studies, and the arts. Every unit begins with all of us together at the carpet, with a rich piece of children's literature.

Thank you for taking the time to read about how we can work together to provide for tools for imaginative creation, collaboration, and authentic learning experiences in our classroom!

My Project

I do not currently have enough of my own headphones for students using our ten new iPads (and they did not even come with any earbuds!). I have some inexpensive headphones at our listening center, and we have some really old, huge, and uncomfortable ones for our desktop computers, but I do not have enough for students to be using each of these centers at the same time!

These kids' headphones have a "share port," which will allow students to listen together as they share a story, watch a video, or work on something collaboratively.

These headphones will be used daily, for reading and math centers, as well as for research for writing, science, social studies, or integrated STEAM projects.

Having a dedicated, comfortable pair of headphones for each of our ten iPads will save a lot of valuable time to allow students to use the technology as much as possible each day. These are also designed for children and are adjustable, so they will be much more comfortable than the giant, old headphones they have had to use with the desktop computers previously. I plan to use three pair in the place of those old, uncomfortable headphones at our desktop computers.
