Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are active and imaginative! Our school community comes from low-income households and don't have any supplies at home to continue hands-on learning experiences.
Many of my students do not have the ability to connect digitally and are relying on packets being distributed and using the few books and other materials they have on hand.
My four- and five-year-old students need hands-on developmentally appropriate materials to continue to engage in the world around them while our schools are closed. They are eager and motivated to learn and are curious about the world around them.
My Project
My students come from a play-based classroom filled with materials that allow them to experiment, create, move, grow, and challenge themselves throughout the day.
While at home, my students do not have access to materials or equipment to support their continued early learning endeavors and physical activity.
These supplies will not only provide them with engaging activities but also foster a sense of normalcy that they are missing outside of the classroom.
They will be able to use the materials to keep moving while continuing to engage with developmentally appropriate materials. They can use the balls and jump ropes to develop dexterity and fine motor skills. The rhythm sticks and egg shakers will allow them to not only make music but also practice rhythm, call and repeat, and other learning experiences of their choosing. The sidewalk chalk will provide endless opportunities to draw, write, and create in a way they are comfortable with.
