My students need a wider selection of graphic novels in English and Spanish. We have a wonderful classroom library...but it's in need of this valuable form of literature.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students attend a Title 1 campus, meaning it is a school with a high number of children from low-income families. While many of our students are limited in the number of experiences they encounter outside of the classroom, they are always eager to learn about what lies beyond the four walls of our room. They are respectful and appreciative. To see their faces as I share anectodes about college life and travel experiences, wow. It is my goal to expand their view of the world through reading and sharing their ideas.
My Project
In an effort to reach all of my young readers, I would like to increase the choices they have in graphic novels. Being able to enhance our classroom with these books in English and Spanish will provide my students an additional way of learning about classic literature pieces. Graphic novels attract large amounts of students and provide an alternative format for students to read and learn about topics such as history, classic literature pieces, and biographies of famous people. Graphic novels also benefit students with learning disabilities as it supports comprehension skills with detailed illustrations and more succinct writing styles.
