Their eyes lit up as they gathered around the table, eager to touch, explore, and discover how the materials worked. Many students gasped with excitement when they saw how the translucent manipulatives glowed and changed under the light. I heard comments like, \"Wow, it's glowing!\" and \"Can I try next?\" as they waited eagerly for their turn to explore.\r\n\r\nAs they began using the manipulatives, their curiosity quickly turned into creativity. Students started sorting shapes, building patterns, and experimenting with different designs, proudly showing their work to classmates. The excitement wasn't just about the materials themselves—it was about the possibilities they created. Even students who are sometimes hesitant to participate were drawn in by the hands-on experience and eagerly joined their peers.\r\n\r\nThat first interaction set the tone for how these materials would be used moving forward—with enthusiasm, collaboration, and a genuine sense of wonder. It was clear from the very beginning that the light table manipulatives were going to become a favorite and meaningful part of our daily learning.","fullyFundedDate":1776792607869,"projectUrl":"project/stem-sin-lmites-lighting-up-learning-f/10191701/","projectTitle":"STEM Sin Límites: Lighting Up Learning for Bilingual Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ayala-O'Neal","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4544637_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y84&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1696805087140","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4544637"},{"teacherId":4544637,"projectId":10153936,"letterContent":"The addition of a light table in our classroom has transformed the way my students experience learning. Instead of simply hearing about concepts, my bilingual first graders have been able to see, touch, and explore them in meaningful ways. With light table manipulatives, my students are able to investigate patterns, shapes, numbers, and structures while developing critical STEM skills such as problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration. \r\n\r\nThe illuminated surface naturally captures their attention and encourages exploration, making even complex ideas feel accessible and exciting. For my bilingual learners, these hands-on experiences also support language development, allowing them to connect vocabulary to real, visible learning. This light table will not only make learning more engaging—it will help my students build confidence as thinkers, creators, and young scientists, setting the foundation for a lifelong love of discovery.","fullyFundedDate":1776089870301,"projectUrl":"project/light-up-learning-bringing-innovative/10153936/","projectTitle":"Light Up Learning: Bringing Innovative, Interactive Exploration to Our Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ayala-O'Neal","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4544637_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y84&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1696805087140","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4544637"},{"teacherId":7396220,"projectId":9234519,"letterContent":"I will forever be so beyond grateful for your generosity in supporting this project, me, and my students. It was like watching a room full of little engineers come to life. We've been using the LEGOs primarily to explore key math concepts like addition, subtraction, patterns, place value, and even basic fractions. One memorable project involved building towers to represent different number combinations that add up to 10. Not only did this help students visualize number bonds, but it also made abstract concepts more concrete and fun. The hands-on experience kept even the most reluctant learners engaged and eager to participate.\r\n\r\nAs we continue to incorporate LEGOs into our math lessons, students are becoming more confident problem-solvers. They're beginning to think critically about math and work collaboratively to build solutions. Right now, we're starting a unit on multiplication, and students are using LEGOs to create equal groups and arrays—giving them a strong visual understanding of what multiplication really means. These resources have truly transformed our math time into something our students look forward to every day, and we're so grateful for the opportunity to learn through play.","fullyFundedDate":1652378706588,"projectUrl":"project/lego-bricks-for-math-facts/6429848/","projectTitle":"LEGO Bricks For Math Facts","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Flores","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp559207_orig.jpg?crop=1134,1134,x0,y154&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1651691556195","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/559207"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_16454","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":275,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":89,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"8.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":64.6,"schoolId":16454,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Odom Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Odom Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/austin-independent-school-district/odom-elementary-school/16454"}
