My Project

I teach about 90 students in 6th through 8th grade at a public school on Chicago's south side. The kids here are motivated to attain and have strong relationships with the adults in the building. They are also typical pre-teens, and I'm doing everything I can to get them interested in STEM.

Luckily, in this pursuit, we won a really exciting grant!

For 2 years, we will be able to use the FUSE program developed by Northwestern University - for FREE! A $20,000+ value. This program allows students to use 3D printers, a vinyl cutter, and tons of makerspace supplies to independently pursue STEM projects in coding, design, engineering, and more. They will be using the FUSE software and can work alone or in small groups. This will give them the chance to lead their own learning every week on FUSE Fridays.

The only catch is that there are a few supplies we need to implement the program. We need 2-3 desktop computers (we are asking for 2 on this DonorsChoose campaign) to run some of the more demanding projects, and we need desks for those computers and for the 3D printers and vinyl cutter provided by FUSE. We also need storage for the supplies and the students' works-in-progress.

Thanks to DonorsChoose and everyone who has given to us, our classroom has gotten more amazing each year. We are so excited to keep reaching for the stars!
