This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, where 100% of my students receive free lunch, I see that they are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the various challenges they face, they still are an eager bunch that has the ultimate desire to learn. As their first teacher, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. They don’t really have any support outside the classroom, and so I will go to the ends of the earth to make sure they are supported inside my classroom.
My Project
In my classroom currently, we are lacking on storage space for various Math Manipulatives. It is so important to me to get some space, so that during small group instruction, my students will know where their items are and stations can work more smoothly in my class! I know these space saving bookshelves will help us tremendously because the students will not have to pile up their work bins and reading bins on the same shelf. Currently, like stated before, it is a hectic time and with this extra shelf, we will have better peace of mind in Ms. Myers’ class this year!
