This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This year, I am teaching kindergarten through fifth grade ESOL in my new classroom. My students have challenges and need a lot of one-on-one help. The other teacher, and myself, work with groups all day. We do a lot of one-on-one teaching and modeling and spend a lot of time moving around the classroom. We try to motivate, encourage, and remediate in order to keep our class moving to meet the state's standards. We are a great team working with great students.
My Project
A large number of my students come from low income families. When they get to school they are hungry for more than just an education. Sometimes, by no fault of their own, they miss breakfast. Or they don't have any at home. By the time 9-10 am rolls around they are more worried about what time lunch is instead of what is the answer to the math problem in front of them. The materials that I ordered are to help them focus, like crackers, cookies, and granola bars. When their stomachs start to growl, they can quietly get a snack and get back to their studies. Having it available to all students, no matter the income, will make it less embarrassing for students who might worry about what other people may think.
