Each day, my Sharp Scholars enter our classroom excited and energized for learning. They know that through perseverance and hard work, they will be ready for college and career.
Although half of our students qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch and many face challengesoinside and outside of the school environment, this does not hinder their eagerness to learn.
They inspire me each day with their enthusiasm, and we create a classroom that serves as a safe space where they can take intellectual risks and develop deeper learning.
My Project
This collection of books is a mix of student requests along with the most current, award-winning literature from the past year.
By filling our classroom library shelves with these wonderful, diverse novels, I hope to foster a love of reading that extends beyond students' time in our classroom.
I believe that the gains found in inspiring students to develop a love of reading will be seen not only in my English Language Arts classroom but across other content areas as well. I plan to conduct "book previews" of each novel so students can develop their own sense of their book "tastes."
As students develop their identities as readers, they will naturally begin to dive right in to reading - and these new books will spark that enthusiasm!
