My Students
I teach in a school where many of our students have academic needs in addition to a variety of social/emotional needs. I serve students with a variety of disabilities in the Special Day Class (SDC). Students in our program spend some of their day in the general education classroom setting as well as the SDC room. Every day is different and our motto is “work hard to play hard!” We truly are a class family and support one another’s differences.
My Project
Our students have read almost every book in our classroom library and are desperate for some new titles! We use the Accelerated Reader program (A.R.) to track books read, comprehension quizzes taken, and each student has a reading goal. At the end of each trimester, students earn bronze, silver or gold medals depending on the amount of books they have read and quizzes they have passed. Low-level/high-interest books and book series are essential in the success of our students. These books will help engage our students and promote literacy in the classroom! These titles are some of our absolute favorites!
