This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My incredible newcomer students are hard-working and determined to learn English and build a new life for themselves in the United States. They are dedicated and motivated to improve their lives and the lives of their families and community. My students are immigrants from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Peru, China, Yemen, Bolivia, and Colombia. They are caring, inquisitive, and thoughtful.

They have an incredible amount of grit and persistence that is inspiring to witness.

My students value each other's unique heritage and want to achieve the American dream. Despite the political situation, they are full of hope for their futures.

My Project

Covid numbers are rapidly rising in my community and schools are staying open. There are 25 students in each classroom and we don't have adequate PPE to keep ourselves safe. We need protective masks to stay healthy at school. Many students are coming to school with cloth masks as they don't have access to N95s at home. This project will allow me to pass out N95 masks to students who ask for them so that everyone can be safe at school. Students want to be in school, but we need protective gear to keep schools open safely.
