My Students
My students are in the Transitional Kindergarten program, which serves students who turn five between September and December and gives them a year of nurturing and developmentally appropriate Kindergarten readiness. They then move on to Kindergarten the following year well prepared for the academic and social demands placed on them. 90% of my school's population receive free or reduced lunch, and about a quarter of them are English learners.
TK students are eager to learn every day they are in class!
My Project
We love doing our morning routine, dancing, and reading stories on our area rug. However, it's hard for their expanding minds to focus when they're squished in a too small space! We do about 70% of our daily learning and activities on our large rug, but they outgrow their spots by November. With a bigger space, my students can focus on learning, have more room for physical activities, and have a more harmonious class environment. This rug also provides holistic learning opportunities to practice our colors and shapes whenever we're on the carpet.
