My students need lap desks and portable laptop desks to enhance our innovative seating options in our active learning environment; these will motivate them to reach their learning goals and ultimately increase student health and achievement!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At my school, "Every Student Counts, and Every Moment Matters"!
My students come to school each and every day ready to take on the world and to learn, challenging themselves to be better than they were the day before.
We set academic goals in each content area and aim not only to achieve, but to surpass these goals. This is not always easy in a lower income neighborhood where the stress of the outside world can permeate into the classroom environment, where 100% of students receive free lunch and where Title I resources are cut due to dwindling budgets, but poverty is not an obstacle that my students let get in their way.
They aim for the highest standards of achievement! Their motivation, focus and drive is awe-inspiring. It's a great time to be a Lion!
My Project
Yvone Enoch and James Lyke said, “The good teacher….knows that the best learning environment is always student-centered, never teacher-centered.” But in the 21st century classroom, what are the perfect ingredients needed to create a student-centered classroom so that students are able to be creative, collaborative and achieve at high levels academically? Teachers may need to step outside of their comfort zone to allow students to thrive.
My students are more engaged, more motivated, and more collaborative in my classroom that utilizes flexible seating, but I want to make it even more student-centered.
My project is designed to enhance my students' level of engagement and provide them with additional seating options in our student-centered classroom. Students currently utilize yoga balls, stability cushions, and exercise bikes when learning, which all have excellent health and wellness benefits! We are in need of stable writing surfaces to add to our classroom so that the students gain maximum benefits when utilizing these flexible seating options.
