This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When you walk into my classroom, you will see my students working in pairs, in small groups and there is definitely a buzz. You will see students working on Chromebooks, iPad minis, and even personal smartphones. My students are used to using many different modalities to demonstrate their understanding. They are a group of 7th and 8th graders who are English-language learners and Spanish-language learners. They have been learning in both languages since kindergarten in our school, which is a K-8 grade school model.

My Project

Bringing technology to our classroom and in the hands of our students is imperative. Pedagogy is the driver. Technology is the accelerator. As we continue to educate students and prepare them for the future, teachers must continue to provide authentic learning experiences.

I want my students to create a motion movie while studying Forces and Motion this year.

With the iPad minis and an app called Stop Motion, my students will get into stop motion moviemaking. Therefore merging STEM and the ART of moviemaking. These iPad minis will add to our existing 18 as we try to finally bring the iPad to student ratio to 1 to 1. The iPad minis will another important tool in the hands of students who are willing to live up to the expectations of our school's core values. The protective cases will help with the durability of the new iPad minis as well as two other in the classroom.

The iPad minis will also facilitate the collecting, storing, and display of data, as well as share it. They will also be used as resources in mini-stations to provide instant feedback with the QRC code readers in our math class, use them to research topics or concepts. Students are using the iPad minis to take pictures of assignments and turning them in digitally.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
