Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What makes my students special? My students are special for a number of reasons, but the most important one is that despite their low social economic status, my students are filled with dreams and goals. They come from many different living arrangements and broken homes where dreams are shattered, but when they come to school they are filled with hope that their dreams are indeed possible.

98% of the students that attend our campus are labeled as "at risk" students, but here they are given the opportunity to succeed and not become a statistic.

My students are aware of their surroundings and because of this, they are natural born fighters. In my class, I teach them to protect themselves with words and an education, the only form of protection that one should ever need.

My students fill my classroom with life and I am proud to be a part​ of their education.

My Project

These books will continue to enhance the diversity in my classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy and love to check out books from. I would love to add diverse novels into my classroom to expand my students reading horizons. Diverse novels can open up great classroom discussions about adversity and acceptance. Adding diverse reads will really open doors for me to have great conversations with my students.

With these diverse books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read about different cultures and ethnicities.

They will also be able to choose books that are of high interest to them. The best way to increase reading fluency is to read more, but students have to enjoy the books they are reading. I hope to close reading gaps and also build lifelong readers in my classroom.
