We Need Diverse Books!

My students need a variety of diverse books in our classroom library. I have students who have found their favorite genres and topics of books, but I also have students who are still searching. Please help!

My Students

My students are beautiful, creative teenagers striving to understand the world around them. My students are from a small, rural town in North Mississippi. I attempt to build a community where we can explore our own stories by understanding the stories of others through poetry, short stories, vignettes, and novels.

My students are 9th graders--they are young people coming into their own understanding of our place in history countered with what they will accomplish with their futures.

My students are readers, writers, and thinkers who are filled with boundless potential.

My Project

Many of my students love to read, I have two students who are ready for a new book every day! But some of my students have not found a book that speaks to them, they've found a few likable books, but nothing life changing, nothing that stays with them long after the last sentence on the last page. I want my students to experience the joy of finding themselves lost in the pages of a book. My students need to see themselves in the characters and setting, in the plot and complexity of the text. We need diversity in our classroom library to achieve this goal. Therefore, I am requesting a collection of books with titles such as The Hammer of Thor, Piecing Me Together, Freedom in Congo Square, and We Were Here, amongst other titles.
