Help me give my students these diverse books! I want to expand my classroom library to promote equity and cultural diversity in my class. I am hoping this will bring rich discourse and discussion.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a diverse group of 7th grade students from New York! I have students from various nationalities, who speak different languages, come from different socio-economic backgrounds, and have different interests. Each child brings a different story and a different aspect to my class!
One of the many wonderful things about being an educator in NYC is that we have the opportunity to service and be of help to so many different children.
I take my job and my role seriously and hope to make a difference in their lives.
My Project
I am hoping these novels not only increase excitement for independent reading, but also increase discussion of important topics and ideas. I always want to keep my library up to date and interesting to my students. It is especially important to me that I include as many diverse titles as I can. I want all of my students to feel valued and accepted in our classroom.
These materials will help me expose my students to diverse, cultural, and current young adult literature.
With these novels I can give students different independent reading selections and even do book clubs in class!
