This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very hard-working individuals who want nothing more than to be good writers. They love writing stories! The problem is that a computer cannot do that for them. Children still need to look up words the old-school way, as well as learn how to use those words through reading definitions.

My students live in high poverty homes.

Many do not own books, let alone a dictionary. This is a wonderful resource for our children. The investment that we make now in teaching our children to read, write and spell properly will help them in school and throughout their lives. We call this school-to-work.

My Project

I am requesting dictionaries that will remain in the classroom as a resource. We have a large, wooden writing table up in front of the room where the children sit for group lessons before returning to their desks for individual work. The dictionaries will be in a basket for all to share and use as we write.

It is not just enough to be able to speak and to read well.

Students need to be good writers to express themselves and their ideas. We call this school-to-work as they will use these valuable skills for the rest of their lives. Please help support the children in highest poverty by providing dictionaries.
