This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I currently work at a Title I school where more than 95% of students receive free lunch. My students are creative, tech-savvy and hard workers. However, they come with lots of interpersonal conflicts and social emotional needs.
My students are in need of Chromebooks .
As the COVID-19 pandemic hit, my school scrambled to provide devices for every student to take home for remote teaching. However much of this technology is outdated and inadequate for a now mostly virtual learning curriculum. Many of my students don't have access to appropriate technology to complete all their assignments. I need additional devices to ensure everyone in my class has equal access during hybrid or all remote instruction.
My Project
Using Google Classroom has enabled my students to acquire necessary 21st Century skills. They are able to complete assignments, receive frequent feedback and work independently while I meet with small groups. If we had more devices available for classroom use, each student would be able to grow even more. In addition to Google Classroom, my students use devices to read online books on MyOn (and online book database with thousands of interesting books) as well as to log on to tailored online instruction in reading and math through iReady. With access to reliable devices I am confident my students will show amazing growth in all content areas.
