My Project

My K-2 students with autism and speech and language delays will benefit tremendously from Art Therapy. This is an integral part of our Verbal Behavior program. For example, we will make superheroes masks for Autism awareness month, animal puppets with the paper bags during our farm animal units and we will use the clay to build shapes which at the same time will strengthen their fine motor skills and decorate them to increase their creativity.

Art allows my students to communicate verbally and visually, express their emotions, learn by using different means especially if it is kinetic and hands-on, reduce problem behaviors and develop their fine motor skills.

My goal is to create lesson plans with materials that will last through the school year. Lesson plans will be linked to our social-emotional learning, literacy program, and social studies programs.
