My students are ESL Pk students. Their families come from various countries. The students are limited English speakers or may not be able to speak English. Their families do not speak English or speak very limited English. My students come from low-income families and attend a Title I school.
My students and their families were affected by Hurricane Harvey and are slowly rebuilding their homes.
This is their first adventure in school for the children. They are afraid for the first few weeks, and then they begin to learn the English language quickly. It only takes a few months until they begin understanding and speaking English.
Many of our families are still working to rebuild their homes. Some of the children are not able to play in their home and have limited toys in their temporary homes. Most of their toys were ruined when the water came in their homes. Many are still not living in their homes or have their own bedrooms and toys.
My Project
My students love to work on puzzles. We moved into a new school building on October 22. We were not able to bring any of our old furniture or play items with us. We do not have a storage rack for our puzzles.
We work on puzzles daily and need a place to store them.
We have been leaving the puzzles in a box and the pieces have been getting mixed up.
My students homes are slowly being rebuilt after Hurricane Harvey. They lost their toys as well as their possessions in the flood water. They look forward to coming to school to be able to play and work in a safe clean environment.
