This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach first grade at a large urban school district. Our school is a high-needs status school with over ninety percent of our students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunches.

Most of my students are English Language Learners from low-income homes.

My students are wonderful. My students are excited about learning and love school. I want my students to learn to their fullest potential. Having books for students to borrow to read from our classroom will ensure that they stay excited about learning.

My Project

I am requesting a complete set of Leveled books for our classroom lending library. I would like to have a classroom lending library for students to borrow books to read at home and then return them back to the classroom when done. Students will be able to choose a book of their choice and check it out of the class library.

Many of my students do not have books at home to read.

Having a lending library will create an opportunity for my students to read or have someone read to them at home.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
