Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Ninety-five percent of our student population qualifies for free lunch. A lot of our students have been classified by others as being troubled, but they have grown to love our theater department.

They are diamonds in the rough and are always looking for ways to entertain an audience.

Their grit has challenged me to be more creative in how I present opportunities. It has been great watching them blossom from improvisation to wanting to create their own works. My students are amazing.

My Project

We are so excited about our entry in the GA High School Musical Theatre Awards. We are producing "Little Shop of Horrors" and we have really stepped up our game this year. One of our main characters, the dentist needs a gas mask for the show. This specific gas mask gets stuck and causes the dentist to laugh to death. This show is a turning point in our program because a majority of the students are taking more charge with the show.

We need a gas mask, a container that has straps, and body parts are needed for us to feed the plant.

This experience will help to raise student morale and allow them to realize that they can make a living in the performing arts.
