My Students

My students are wonderful! Most of my first graders are new to our country. Many are refugees, homeless, or live with many different people in their homes. My students are eager to learn, love school, and care for each other. We are a community of learners; a family. Together we are learning how to be students, good citizens and friends.

If you were to visit our classroom, you would not know the struggles or obstacles that my young learners face every day.

I love my students. They know they can count on me and one another. We all work together to become the best that we can be.

My Project

My 1st grade students need a good selection of coloring tools so they can stay creative! Coloring is so very important in my classroom and so very beneficial for student learning - aspiring talent develops! From coloring, students receive the opportunity to exercise finger grip skills, fine motor skills and more. They also get to exercise great levels of concentration and coordination. They take pride in selecting the “right” color for the task at hand. Using a variety of coloring tools and materials allows my students to apply good judgement in selecting that special color as well as applying the appropriate hues and shades within – and also experiment with variation – because markers, color pencils and crayons all have different coloring outcomes. My students enjoy coloring – but specifically – enhancing their drawings with diverse colors that the traditional crayon set may not contain.

Nothing can be more frustrating than reaching for that special color crayon only to discover that it was not included in the set, or that it is broken - or worse - missing.

Sharing crayons with other students helps – but it’s not the best solution because many times my students are coloring the same thing using the same color – therefore it’s crucial to have extra coloring tools in complete sets to not deprive any of my students’ artistic ability.

Coloring yields so many benefits to a child’s learning and from it also emerges strong artistic talent! Your donation will help us achieve our goal together!
