Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Title I school in a small farming town. One hundred percent of our students receive free lunch and breakfast. Forty-eight percent of our students are English learners. Although we are located in an older neighborhood, it is a tight-knit community with lots of family support.

My students are inquisitive with a desire to explore and grow. They are eager to learn but have had limited opportunities for enrichment outside of school.

My Project

My students love to sew! Our first project was hand sewing small stuffed animals and Christmas ornaments. My students learned to thread a needle, tie a knot, and sew the running stitch. Now, they are ready to learn how to use a sewing machine.

To practice our sewing skills, we will be sewing stuffed toy snakes, Charity bears, drawstring bags, and fat quarter aprons!

This project is for fabric, thread, sewing scissors, bobbins, a seam ripper, and an iron. I also added a package of Origami paper and lotta loops for weaving potholders.
