This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My fifth grade class is full of innovators that are curious and full of creativity. Our school is located in Houston, TX. The district consists of over 70% socioeconomically disadvantaged students and 60% English Language Learners.
My students are a part of a Title I school, and most of my students do not have the tools at home that are needed to connect to the world and expand their learning.
My fifth grade class consists of students from diverse backgrounds and learning challenges. My students love to do hands-on activities and experiments but simply do not have the resources to engage in learning. My students struggle daily with having the proper resources to function in the classroom.
My Project
All students deserve to feel comfortable and safe in school and especially in their classroom! Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom. I'm requesting six Flex-Space Comfy Floor Seats to give my students the option of changing their location and positions as needed.
My students have been through a traumatic event due to Hurricane Harvey and often times find it difficult to focus or self-regulate.
Flexible seating gives students the power to choose where they sit and makes them aware of how they learn best. It also allows students to quickly and easily pair up and work in small groups.
My students enjoy the idea of having various locations in the classroom to complete assignments. When my students receive their Comfy Floor Seats they'll become more engaged in classwork and group collaboration.
