My Students
My students are a brilliant group of eighteen 8 and 9-year-olds. Each one has a different passion, but all of them have a love for education. We are a Title I school. Title I means over 65% of our school student population is living below the poverty line. Many of the students at my school come from one parent households or are being raised by grandparents or other relatives. While this is disheartening, the lack of resources at home has never stopped my students from wanting to learn more.
My Project
Our 3rd grade team has built some amazing literacy lessons around the various books. Each week we will read one of the mentor text and use that to learn different vocabulary, text features, comprehension skills, language skills, and so much more! It is so much more efficient and enjoyable to the students if the teacher has an actual copy to sit and read aloud to them. This project has the complete school years list of mentor text needed. My students love to sit on the carpet and get cozy while listening to our book of the week! It is also one of my favorite parts of the day! :)
