Our school is in a smaller town right outside the big city. Because we are such a small community everyone knows each other and supports one another. A lot of the students' parents, staff, and faculty went to our school and still live in the community. I love the small town feel of our community and I love being a part of it. My students work really hard and are eager to learn. They love to be challenged and take pride in their work. I am so proud of my students!
Being read to and listening to reading is so important for a kindergartner's progress in becoming a fluent reader. I would like to build up a library of books and CDs for our class listening center! Which is one of my students' favorite centers. We have a special theme each week in kindergarten and I would like to have a book for each theme. The books that I have selected cover about a fourth of the year's themes! Most of the books I have picked out are nonfiction, informational books that allow my kinders to learn about animals they may never get to meet in real life. I read to my students twice a day and with the listening center they will be able to be read to 3 times a day!
