I currently teach first grade to 23 low- income students in an urban neighborhood school. I am looping up to 2nd grade with these same students next year. I teach all academic subjects to these 23 wonderful children each day. My students LOVE math!! They are all working at different levels, with a wide range of problem solving and logical reasoning. The resources that I want for my class are so cool. They are magnetic boards with self-checking activity cards that mount right on the magnetic surface. They come in a wide range of ability levels and skills. These materials would be perfect for my students to use when they finish an assignment. I have several parent volunteers and a teacher cadet from a local high school. These materials would be fantastic for these helpers to use with my students. The materials would allow me to differentiate my instruction for each child based on his/her needs. The resources that I want for my students are from the Lakeshore catalog. They are called Magic Board Math Practice Cards, and Lakeshore Magic Boards. I feel that having these resources for my students would be very beneficial to those who need extra practice on certain skills and those who need enrichment. Having these resources in my classroom would help me meet the wide range of needs in my whole class. The Practice Cards range in grade level from 1-3. That allows me to continue to make use of this fabulous resource for the entire time that I stay with these students (usually through 3rd grade).
