Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day in our math class focuses on using concrete hands on manipulatives. Children desperately need that understanding in order to build on the abstract. We typically spend an hour a day on math rotations that focus on problem solving, hands on lessons and math games.

I teach 22 fourth graders in Central Florida.

We are located in a low-income area, where more than 100% of the children receive free lunch. State budget cuts have been devastating and we struggle to supply our students with the basics. Even though my students face daily struggles they still LOVE learning!

My Project

We will use these games to teach and understand math concepts. We will use these games in group instruction. They can learn how to manipulative and relate fractions, geometry and decimals. We will use these resources along with The Hands on Standards for Teaching Mathematics. It has been proven that children learn better if they have the concrete background to build upon. These resources will supply that.

These games will help my students foster their love of math.

It will help them review previously taught concepts as well as give them a fun way to practice skills we are learning in class. Most importantly this will teach my students that team work is important.
