The sequencing puzzles and tactile numbers have also helped them strengthen number order and recognition in a way that feels like play instead of work. When the boxes first arrived, they were genuinely excited. There was a lot of \"Can we use this today?\" before everything was even unpacked.\r\n\r\nOne of our favorite moments has been using the books like Feast for 10, Mouse Count, and One Is a Pinata during whole group math lessons and then immediately connecting them to hands-on activities at centers. Students retell stories using counters, build sets from the books, and practice counting in ways that feel meaningful and fun. Right now, we are moving into deeper work with number sense and one-to-one correspondence, and these materials are making it possible for every student to access that learning at their own level. In our Multiply the Fun, Divide the Treats project, students practiced solving word problems by dividing candy or small classroom items among groups. For example, they worked in pairs to figure out how to share 24 pieces of candy among 6 friends using manipulatives and visual models. They also did a fun activity called How Many Candies Are in the Jar?, where they estimated how many candies were inside the jar and then used multiplication to check their guesses. It was exciting to see them count, group, and talk about their strategies. It really brought the math to life.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, they were thrilled! Their eyes lit up, and they were excited to use real objects instead of just paper and pencil. They couldn't wait to touch the items, share, and divide the treats in creative ways. It made math feel like a game, and they were fully engaged from the start.\r\n\r\nNext, we will take what we learned with the manipulatives and apply it to solving more challenging word problems on paper. Students will practice showing multiplication and division in different ways such as drawing pictures, writing number sentences, and explaining their thinking to a partner. We also plan to connect these skills to real-life situations, like sharing snacks at home or organizing classroom supplies, so students can see how multiplication and division are useful every day.","fullyFundedDate":1764774971623,"projectUrl":"project/multiply-the-fun-divide-the-treats/9749776/","projectTitle":"Multiply the Fun, Divide the Treats!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Galang","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10260429_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x0,y120&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757795940913","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10260429"},{"teacherId":5277025,"projectId":9713167,"letterContent":"Thanks to your support, our classroom has become more motivated and focused!
