This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Learning in first grade is a wonderful journey in growth, perseverance, exploration and of course lots of fun. This is my second year teaching in this community and it's amazing how happy they make me to come to work every day.
The children of our small neighborhood come from diverse families with wide ranges of experiences, backgrounds, and skills.
When they arrive through our school doors we grow together as a loving, supportive community. They love taking charge of their learning and going above expectations. These are kids with a desire to learn and know what's going on in the world. They are filled with imaginations and dreams that I am so privileged to bear witness to.
My Project
Math in first grade is full of hands on learning. Having high quality products for holding our manipulative objects keeps the fast paced learning moving.
Daily math review in our calendar notebooks spirals important skills for first graders.
Without spiraling our learning, we risk the chance of losing the skills we've worked so hard to learn. These journals and caddies are a major help in getting us to avoid the "use it, or lose it" risk.
Math in the primary grades is a critical time for building understanding and critical thinking skills. With the support of these math tools, I believe that we can make a difference in our Math Workshop.
