My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds. We serve some students that are very transient and other students that have the benefit of extended family in the area. We used to be a small town but they are building in our area as fast as they can and we are adjusting to the growth as fast as we can.

We serve students who are low income and may not have educational support beyond our school.

We take these challenges as an opportunity to be more creative in reaching our students.

My Project

Since the shut down in March my students have lost a lot of momentum.

We are back in school part time but their motivation is still at home!

I would like to reignite their reading by introducing some new life to our library curbside pickup and book delivery by adding more graphic novels. Students find graphic novels to be less indimidating than other forms of reading.

Struggling readers are able to use the illustrations to help them while also learning new words.

We all want students to love to read big thick novels but during this time period it is important to meet them where they are and start from there!
