Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
What would you enjoy doing when your teacher is working with small groups of students: working independently on worksheets to practice skills learned in class or playing games and having a variety of activities to choose from to practice those skills?
My students come from a low socio-economic area in southern Nevada that has been hit hard by the recession.
Their parents are struggling just to put food on the table. The majority of the students in my school live below the poverty level. However, these children come to school each day with a positive attitude to work hard and learn as much as they can. They want to be successful. They are hard-working and energetic and try their best with every activity we do. They also know the importance of the state tests that they take in the spring and they want to pass these tests.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will help my students in several ways. The center activities and games will help students practice skills in areas including grammar usage, vocabulary, context clues, analyzing text, drawing conclusions, identifying prefixes and suffixes, critical thinking, and test preparation. All of the activities are leveled so that students can work at their own pace, the levels of the activities progress in difficulty and there are extension activities available. In addition to having engaging activities to allow them to practice these important skills and concepts, they also will be practicing and preparing for the state tests they will take in the spring.
Donating to this project will give my students numerous activities to use throughout the year.
When I am working with small groups on skills and concepts, the other children in my class will have the opportunity to use these fun activities to practice the skills they have been learning. They will be engaged in their learning and having fun. Students will be able to work independently and in small groups to practice these skills to be successful in school and in life.
