My Project

The materials requested in this project align with topics within my school's Social-Emotional Learning (Second Step) and MicroSociety curriculums. Social-emotional learning has been a priority for my students since the COVID-19 Pandemic and has helped build the foundation for the school year as I have students with a number of internal struggles and behaviors. Connecting with my students on a deeper level has allowed me to form stronger relationships with them. Some examples of topics that are covered in the Second Step curriculum include the power of yet, making mistakes, and self-affirmations/positive self-talk. These books will be read aloud to my students after these topics are covered within our curriculum. The MicroSociety Curriculum at my school includes character trait themes such as: respect and reason. My hope is that these texts help me continue to build a strong classroom community where my students feel safe, respected, and loved. In addition to this, I would love to see my students continue to use problem solving strategies in situations where they are needed instead and apply what they have learned within these curriculums in real time situations at school, instead of just giving up or asking an adult for help. I would also love for my students to continue to use positive self-talk throughout the school day. An example that my students can use positive self-talk in a difficult situation could be when a student is faced with a difficult word problem in math or decoding a difficult word while reading a text. Please help me bring this project to life!
