We Love Big Books

Help me give my students big books that allow everyone to see the text at the same time. Big books will help our class learn text features and develop a love of reading!

My Students

My Montessori classroom consists of 24 students ranging in age from 3 to 6 years old. They love coming to school every day and learning new things! Each student comes from a very different background. Students start in my classroom when they are only 3 years old. They stay with me for 3 years before moving on to first grade.

My Project

Having access to quality children's big books will allow my students to build a love of reading and further enhance their reading skills. Big books allow all children to see the text at the same time. This allow me to explicitly teach strategies such as concepts about print, print features, and reading strategies.

Big books are an important component of shared reading in our classroom.During shared reading, the students' learning about print and reading is scaffolded by the teacher before the students are asked to try their reading skills independently.

They absolutely LOVE it when I pull a big book out. Their engagement is much higher when I use big books during read alouds. Also, during our three hour work cycle, students love to use a pointer and read the big books alone or with a friend. Big books are great asset to have in any early childhood classroom.
