We like to Move It, Move It!

Help me give my students some flexible seating choices. 8 & 9 year olds need to be able to move and wiggle while they learn without disrupting their classmates.

My Students

My amazing third grade students are a kind and curious bunch who love to learn. They constantly support each other with positive statements like "you can do it" and "keep trying" when a classmate is discouraged or feeling down. They persevere through challenges and always have a bright smile to share. We are so lucky to have an incredible community of students, staff, and volunteers who work together to educate our children. Our class is part of the largest elementary school in the largest city in our state. Our students come from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Approximately 65% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

My Project

Remote learning has increased the sitting time of an already stationary generation. The children's core strength is decreasing and they are losing flexibility because of all the hours of sitting in hard plastic chairs. Kids need to be able to move their bodies as needed throughout the day without distracting their classmates. We do regular movement breaks, but some learners just need more.

These flexible seating options allow wiggling while learning.

The children will naturally move and adjust their bodies as needed when they have the option to wiggle and move while they are working.
