My Students

My 5th grade Language Arts students are an enthusiastic and energetic group of kids. They are a diverse group who are always willing to dive into any project or activity that is expected of them. We live in a very rural community in Wyoming where a large number of students live out of town and have to be bused to and from school. Many of the students are on free and reduced lunch and have struggles outside of school. However, they are always committed to working hard and are dedicated to being the best they can be.

My students are so creative and are always looking for ways to spread their creativity.

The students are working hard to improve their grammar skills as well as analyzing literature and annotating informational text. They apply the writing process throughout their variety of classes. Our school is one that focuses on Project Based Learning and STEM Activities, so we are able to do many cross-curricular activities. This allows them to use what they have learned in our English/Language Arts class and build in other areas.

My Project

In our classroom we are constantly moving around! We move around from center to center. Many times students have to bring chairs to our small group center or to the computer center. Stools we be very beneficial to move around the classroom verses the alternative that we have, which are big bulky chairs. Many times we circle up to share our writings in groups of three or four. Again we are on the move!

One highlight of our classroom is the few stools that we draw names for weekly.

The students look forward to their names being selected to use the stool for the week. I would like to provide more stools for students to use in my classroom.
