Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am a lucky to spend my day with 22 enthusiastic students who each contribute their own personalities and knowledge to our class. They enjoy exploring with hands-on materials, listening to and reading literature, and sharing their knowledge with each other.

My students amaze me with their love for learning and their excitement for trying new things.

They attend a global studies magnet school in Virginia. My students come from all over the city to participate in the unique global studies program. I believe that my students are capable of becoming whatever they want to be and it is my goal to encourage, inspire, and motivate them to put in the work it takes to be successful.

My Project

My students love to play reading games to practice their reading skills. I am requesting the Build a Word Houses and the Magnetic Sight Word Sentence Boards to provide my students with more hands-on learning during Reader's Workshop. The beginning sound, middle sound, ending sound, and rhyming match puzzles will also help students practice skills that are essential for learning to read.

My students love to learn about letters and words and I would love to be able to provide them with more tools to do so.

Additionally, my students love to be builders. I would love to add the building boxes to our science center to give students inspiration and materials to explore their engineering skills.
