This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a special education teacher who co-teaches with other 3rd, 4th and 5th grade math and literacy teachers and I also pull students out for small group instruction. My students have a wide range of disabilities which can make learning very challenging. Research says that using color can help.

My students are from various countries and many are from low income families.

Despite their backgrounds and disabilities, they love to learn and put forth their best effort each day. Our school is the largest elementary school in North Carolina. Although we are busting at the seems, we do our best to address each student's individual needs.

My Project

A color copier will allow me to create visual aids and resources for students with disabilities. I will be able to color code notes, instructions and assignments. I will use it to create visual schedules in color. Research says that using color in classrooms can impact students mentally and physically.

By donating and helping us secure a color printer with extra ink cartridges, you will be helping students with disabilities have more effective picture schedules and communication boards.

You will be helping them see important key words in math word problems and have access to color coded class notes among many other useful resources making learning easier for students who typically struggle every day in the classroom.
