Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students come from low income families.
A high percentage of students come from a poverty setting and are bused to our school. Our school is one of the most up-and-coming schools in the state in terms of test scores and academic achievement. It is rare to have such successful students in an urban setting. The success is because these students have a strong desire to further themselves and do great things with their lives.
My students also know that I have an open door policy and they can come see me whenever they want. Students are in my room all the time learning and and being around other people that love music as much as they do. I always have extra students in my room wanting to help!
My Project
If students have any extra time to my classroom they do. Often during my prep period and lunch time, I do not even get to sit down because my students are coming to see me. We have a lot of students that are part of a dancing group at our school. Not only will this be a great tool for the students already in music, but it will help me recruit even more students into band! Any tool that helps spread music is wonderful! I'd love to have another option for giving my students the opportunity to DANCE! The xBox, Kinect motion sensor and "Just Dance" are the perfect solution! Dancing has SO many benefits! Students have to listen to the beat, be a part of a group and take turns, and learn how to express themselves in a socially acceptable manner! "Just Dance" would also give my choir students more ideas for choreography! Another benefit of dancing is that general fitness and coordination improve with dance! Sounds like the perfect remedy for a rainy day!
