I want to create a safe, engaging and educational environment where the students in my classroom want to come and learn. I teach children with special needs in grades K-5 on a Native American Indian Reservation. 100% of the student population receives free breakfast and lunch. They live in extreme poverty, often coming to school without their basic needs being met, such as wearing warm clothes, being fed, or getting a good night's rest. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day.
My Project
I can't believe this school year is quickly coming to a close. I'm already looking ahead to next year and some of the art activities planned that helps improve eye - hand coordination and fine motor skills. Of course the projects will be fun and will help with increasing creativity. I'm creating this project to ask for replacement filament for our amazing 3D pens we received this year. The students love using the pens and their creativity has blossomed, however, we need more filament to be able to continue using the pens.
The beading supplies are to help incorporate more Native American culture in my classroom.
The tribe is known for their intricate bead work. My para-educator is Native. She brought her beading supplies to school before Mother's Day and taught the students how to bead earrings for their mothers. It was amazing! Every student was so focused and I would have proudly worn every single pair. I want to incorporate more cultural beading opportunities next year to expand the skills my students learned this year.
I also want to introduce the art of Quilling to my students. It is easy to do so all my students would be able to create a masterpiece 😊
