Wow, does it have an impact! The books look so beautiful and inviting in the library! \r\nI have already had several students come in and comment on the new way the books are displayed. Several have commented that they can wait to check out the books again. The great thing is, several of these books are ones that don't get frequently checked out, because they're always spine facing and the kids can't see them! They walked through the brick wall at Platform 9¾ and were immediately immersed in the excitement of the day. Every student received a personalized Hogwarts Acceptance Letter that sorted them into one of the four Hogwarts Houses, and I proudly hung each house banner on the appropriate teacher's door.\r\n\r\nOur student council members, along with four additional 5th graders, served as \"prefects\" for the day. Each prefect was responsible for leading a small group of students from class to class using their own Marauder's Map to guide the schedule. The students absolutely loved the creativity and attention to detail, and the event helped make them feel recognized and celebrated for their academic achievements.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, our students experienced a day filled with imagination, teamwork, and joy. Each book presents common challenges students face, such as managing strong emotions, friendship conflicts, or making responsible choices. Students learn healthy strategies for handling these situations, and we connect each story to real-life experiences in discussion.\r\nReading in my classroom is interactive and discussion-based. We pause to reflect, talk about the characters' choices, and practice how we might handle similar situations. My main goal with this project has been to show the wide variety of ways to enjoy reading, and I do feel this has done that. The e-readers have introduced the younger kids especially to audiobooks, and that has been a treat for them. After story time, I'll let either just sit in one of our cozy corners with these (thanks again to Donors Choose!) or they'll even listen to them while they do a craft or project. As a fan of audiobooks myself because of the way I can enjoy reading while getting work done, this has been wonderful to see. \r\n\r\nThe mysteries have been a fun group brainstorming warm up that I use in my writing classes.
