Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My students sometimes feel their voices and concerns are not being heard. This project is focused on helping them record and create short interviews related to issues they feel are important. The video camera and lights will be used by students to interview each other and community leaders to discuss the problems that they feel need addressing. My students are scholars, parents, caregivers, and DC residents who have concerns about their community and caring for their families. The adapter will make it easy for them to transfer files so they can edit the footage. Additionally, my students are doing some amazing things in the community with little recognition. This project will allow them to also celebrate their wins by sharing them with others through the film screening that students will plan and implement. The materials will help students record their stories and provide training for those interested in media. These stories will serve as an inspiration to other students and the community. Students will have a visual representation that they can share for potential jobs, college applications, and other opportunities that request a sample.
