This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach reading in small groups to students that are below reading level in a title 1 school. I teach in a high poverty neighborhood, some of them even live in shelters. My students have the potential to do better but unfortunately they don't have the resources that can help them improve academically. Some of my students still struggle with basic phonics.

My students are motivated to learn, they want to learn how to read better so they can be at grade level.

My Project

These magazines will help my students learn about the world and rich vocabulary. It will benefit the low level and high level readers due to the content, pictures, information and general format of the magazine. Many of my students have never read a magazine. I'm sure they will be excited to own one. The goal for my students is to learn what is going on in the world and would be able to link my reading instruction to social studies and science. Most important, my students would be learning how to use new vocabulary while having fun at the same time.
