This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

It must be remembered that the purpose of education is not to fill the minds of students with facts... it is to teach them to think, if that is possible, and always to think for themselves. -Robert Hutchins

My job as an educator is to help students think independently.

I am a first grade teacher at a high-poverty elementary school with approximately 90% of students on free/reduced lunch. Many of these students speak English as a second language and are considered at risk. My job as an educator is to find ways to encourage these students to become independent thinkers, readers, writers, mathematicians. The families at our school have limited funds and opportunities to provide their students with stimulating resources. I need your help in order to provide them with engaging, enriching resources to promote high-level thinking skills!

My Project

My students need extra support in mastering state standards. In my experience, I have found that hands-on manipulatives help students to gain the self-confidence needed to master the curriculum objectives. I am aiming to create life-long learners in my classroom and feel that these resources will help me achieve this with my students. While working with a small group of students, I would like for my other students to be able to complete tasks independently, such as using the literacy center activities. By providing my students with tactile experiences that they can be successful with, I am empowering them to become independent learners. During math, my students are often working in leveled groups to complete addition and subtraction problems. The number line chart would provide my students with the ability to easily solve problems independently. My goal is to teach children how to think and problem solve!

By choosing to donate to our classroom this year, you are ensuring that my students gain enriching experiences.

By giving my students these opportunities, YOU are helping them to become independent thinkers. These children are our future. We should provide them with the tools of how to think logically and solve problems. If we do this, who knows what these students can achieve? I believe in these children, I hope you will too! Thank you in advance for anything you can do to help our students.
