My students need bus transportation and admission to the National Museum of African American History in Washington, D.C.
Vietnam, Cambodia, China, Venezuela, Honduras, Mexico,... these are just a few of the places my students are from, but one thing they all have in common is that they share a struggle: the struggle to find their (safe) place in this country and maintain their cultural identity.
My students are on fire to find where they fit into this world.
We are studying the history of the many fights for civil rights and equality in this country so that my students can understand and overcome the struggles they face today. We have been reading about the struggles throughout the world, including the Holocaust, to better understand what students can do to prevent these kinds of atrocities from happening again.
My students are passionate about learning history because they want to change the world for the better and not make the same mistakes. My students are a small tight-knit group who love to work together and have inspired me and my co-workers to help them realize their dreams of creating a better world.
Our 8th grade students, many of whom have been at our little school all their lives, have been working hard and are getting ready for high school. They have been studying the history and literature of the American Civil Rights Movement - and similar movements in this country and around the world. A trip to our nation's capital, together one last time, would be a fitting way to bring their elementary school careers to a positive end and bring to life all the learning they have done around creating equality for all peoples. This project will cover the cost of round trip bus transportation from Philadelphia to Washingon, D.C., and admission fees to the National Museum of African American History & Culture.
Our students are ready to make the world a place where all people are represented equally.
Please help us get them to the heart of Democracy and show them where to focus their dreams of a better world for themselves and future generations.
