Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
School in 2021 is yet different for everyone. I believe with the right tools, this year can be better than anyone expected. I am teaching 1st grade at an at-risk school. Most of these children qualify for free lunch. In addition to that, more than 75% of them are ELL and need extra support in terms of vocabulary and modeling by the teacher.
I do not want their background to be a barrier.
We are just finishing our first quarter and I am in awe of their commitment and enthusiasm. Over the next 8 months, I am hoping to provide my new students along with myself, what we need to make our learning environment complete.
My Project
For a majority of my students, first grade is their very first in-person school experience. Prior to them walking into my classroom, they didn't have the opportunity to get hands-on experiences or practice papers. There are so many standards I need to teach them but I also want them to have those foundational skills they missed last year. Math manipulatives will help fill some of the gaps in math. I would like to have them practice some of the skills missed last year. With the TPT gift cards, I will be able to supplement the first grade curriculum with resources that can be practiced in small groups and at home. They want to learn and I want to give them the tools they need to succeed. They deserve this!
