This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In my heart, I believe there is nothing more rewarding than impacting young lives through education. My third graders are amazing and creative. I believe the best word that would describe my students would be resilient. Despite the hardships they may be facing from this pandemic we continue to persevere.
It is my desire as their teacher to provide an environment that stimulates growth mentally, emotionally, and socially using any and all resources at my disposal.
I seek to meet the educational and developmental needs of students in order to share the joy of learning while implementing creativity and higher-order thinking in a way that increases student performance and that prepares and challenges them.
My Project
We have made it to the halfway mark in the school year. I have students that are thieving and others that need a little more time and support. At this point, I want to move into more differentiated small group activities. Students that have mastered previously covered material will move on to more challenging read comprehension activities. I wish for them to get early exposure to these topics so they can continue to progress while I work with other groups to fill in gaps. The power pens and cards I’m requesting cover phonics and word blends which some still need help in. I want to get all my students on grade level to master phonics so we will have the activities for them to practice that to improve reading readiness. Students that have mastered the basics in reading will be practicing the reading comprehension cards that have a mixture of fiction and nonfiction. I’m calling this project part two because the first part was such a success. My kids loved the math power cards and I’m sure they would love the reading power cards. I also want to add to the number of power pens I have so every student can use the power pen activities at the same time.
