My Students

My first graders come to school excited to learn. They enjoy hands-on projects and challenges. They jump in with both feet and work together building a learning community that is infectious. Not a day goes by they don’t surprise me.

My Project

My science project involves plants, health, and nutrition. Students don’t seem to realize we eat so many parts of plants. These parts include flowers, fruits, seeds, stems, root, and leaves. They are always shocked to find out that not all foods from plants are leaves. It is a difficult subject to incorporate hands on learning. The materials I have chosen will give me additional tools, activities, and books to deepen my students’ understanding of the origin of the foods they eat and why plants are so important to their health.
